Release the Kraken!

Today I want to share with you one of my most time-consuming artworks. When I started working on it I thought that I’d be done with it in 2 days .. the most. 2 WEEKS later however, I finally was finished.

I used it as a part of my university application. I had to submit two portfolios of which one had to show different artworks on a given topic. The other portfolio didn’t have to be about a certain topic but was meant to show artistic skill and potential. However, I did decided to make all artworks relate to a topic – “Fish”.

So I drew all kinds of fishes and aquatic animals. At some point I got stuck with the idea of drawing a kraken. I somehow think it’s a very special animal with fantastic abilities to adapt to its surrounding. But I also wanted it to look spectacular and I really felt like experimenting with ball pens. Little did I know that it takes that long! And of course drawing it on big paper wasn’t enough – it had to be the VERY big one!

It’s ball pen only, paper size A2 (420   mm) and I was working on it for 62 + hours.
