Halfway through the week …

Soooo, I actually made it through the first two days of uni (today was off) and I got around to work on another illustration!

It’s taking me yeeears longer because I have to draw with my left hand and my lines don’t come out as steady as I’d like them too. However I am pretty happy with how it turned out and I’d like your opinion on it. It might not look much different to the linearts I’ve posted but there are still a few smaller changes.

I was trying to stick to a regular pencil (HB) and only used a very thin line of ink for the silhouette. Working with the pencil allows me to add a few shadows and to create a bit more dimension. I just scanned it but didn’t edit in Photoshop yet. I want to colour it in the next couple of days and get it ready for Halloween. I’m even thinking about getting a few prints done.

UNI!?!?

For the last couple of days I have been trying to stay away from my computer and my pencils as much as possible so that my wrist can get a little break. Even though it hurts using my hand for more than 10 minutes it hurts much more not to be able to draw and doodle. Right now I have so many ideas stuck in my head and I fear that once I can pick up a pencil again all of them will be gone. Nevermind.

So, tomorrow is going to be a pretty cool day (or at least I hope so).

After finishing school I took a year “off” to work on my skills as an artists and to do some freelance work. During this time I was still working for/ with my current boss (I also will continue working there – just for you too know). But I was also preparing to get into uni.

For those of you who don’t know much about art/ design universities let me give you a few information on that topic.

I had to apply with two different portfolios (each 20-30 artworks), one was given a theme the other one I could design to my liking. There are unis who just demand one portfolio.

Then I had to survive an interview, which actually wasn’t that bad but the girl who had the interview a couple of minutes came out crying and sobbing.

All in all it took me 700 + hours to work on my portfolio. Luckily I got in because I don’t know if I had done another one for the next year.

So tomorrow is my first year at uni!

Around last October I was preparing for another Uni/ Academy which offered a Bachelor in “Illustration” which I thought would be the perfect match for me. So I went there to attend some … sneak-peek classes. I was pretty disappointed because a huge amount of the things they taught had already crossed my path in one or another way.

I though a lot about alternatives and settled for communications design. I really like the idea of learning how images work and how they influence the person looking at it. How does advertisement affect me, why does it have that effect, how can I create such effects for different things.

I’m aiming to be a professional comic book artist one day but it can’t be bad to understand how that kind of thing works, can it?

I’ll let you know what life has in store for me.

Cheers.

“Warden of Time”

As I have mentioned before (and again a little bit later than intended) I am currently working on my own comic project and I want now I want to introduce you to the story properly.

It’s going to be release 30th October in German and will be part of an exhibiton close to where I live. I will translate as soon as I can so it should be available in English sometime in November.

But hold on – I got lost again. Let me start over again and let me tell you what it is about:

Warden of Time

An ordinary girl in her mid-twenties, who has an ordinary life, ordinary friends and ordinary hobbies is being pushed in front of a train and murdered by a sinister-looking, hooded stranger.

Like every dead person she is taken to a morgue. Another stranger shows up and leaves an hour glass next to her. Attached to it is a small piece of paper which reads the name Ophelia Loxley. He flips it and disappears. As the sand starts to fall, she opens her eyes.

10 months after this encounter the girl, now called Ophelia, lives in a big city with no memories of what happened, where she came from and who her family is. Working in a filthy pub, getting by on low wage, she’s not a too happy person to chat up. One night a scruffy customer demands her time promising answers to her questions about her unknown past. When she rejects him he leaves a broken hour glass, similar to Ophelia’s and an address on the table and leaves.

Another hooded man stays unnoticed in the shadows of the pub until she finishes her shift and makes her way to the address.

Of course that isn’t the entire plot, but I can’t tell the entire story now, can I?

This comic will be the first of a series that I want to continue over the next couple of years. Also this part will be an introduction into Ophelia’s World with 30 pages of story and about 10 pages of additional sketches, information and texts. The next issue will have more pages. As I am going to start Uni in October I probably won’t be able to publish new parts of the story as fast as full-time comic artists but I like the idea of having a project that grows with me.

I hope you liked the story so far!

Stay tuned!

Scotland

I have been in Scotland for six days now which is the reason why I didn’t post anything this week.
For years I had been planning to go to Scotland but never did because of various reasons. A few months ago I got a text from a friend saying how great his vacation in Scotland was.
That was the very moment I decided to just go on my vacation as well. So even though I am incredibly busy putting togeher my exhibition and finishing my first small comic book (and with a couple of other things going on) I just booked a flight and went to Scotland. I’m currently staying in the beautiful city Inverness which is located in the Highlands. I’ve done loads of things and seen beautiful places!

Three days ago I hiked along a part of the “Great Glen Way” – I walked almost 20 kilometres (about 12 miles) and I rode along the Loch Ness.
After those rather exhausting days I spend a day in Inverness, sitting in cafรฉs and doing some shopping.
I found that beautiful art supply shop that had awesome sketchbooks for half the price. Of course I couldn’t resist getting two!

Here’s one of the sketches I did straight away.

Today I’m going to see the Highland Games in a small town called Drumnadrochit. And in a couple of days I’ll be back to posting drawings, comics and art stuff!

Have a great day guys!

One of those days…

It still is Wednesday – at least for another hour and 9 minutes – thus I am still in time with my Wednesday post.

Today was really busy even though I didn’t leave my desk at work very often. It was one of those days that start of really bad. In the morning I couldn’t find my hair dryer, then I somehow managed to get some make-up in my hair (which of course didn’t wash off), I stepped in dog poo, missed the metro and made a huge mess trying to eat my lunch (a mango which I hadn’t peeled before) so I had to clean that up too.

However I got almost 3 pages of my comic done, which is pretty good! I usually get like 1-2 done a day. It’s taking shape and it’s going to be exciting soon! I will post pictures of the inked lineart as soon as I am back from my holiday (just one and a half week to go).

But to get to the point of today’s post: The finished illustration of my lovely lady of the sea! I worked with different programmes on it (Photoshop and Manga Studio) and found those awesome brushes that look like soap bubbles.. I just had to use them! I hope you like it (: As always please feel free to share your thoughts whether you like how it turned out or you don’t!

Be a part of my art!

Take part! Soooo! Someone had this awesome idea and I don’t know how I didn’t think of it myself!

You now have the chance to become a part of my fashion illustration series! Do you want to see how your face looks like as a comic illustration? Just give it a go!

How do you take part? It’s pretty easy (:

Follow me on Facebook and Instagram (and since we’re here on 2muchdrama.wordpress.com too) and share my art. I have 5 open positions for coming illustrations and will select 5 people. If you are one of those five I will contact you and ask for a photo of you and how you would like to be pictured. As a little thanks you will receive your illustration as a high-resolution and ad-free jpeg.

By taking part you agree to be fine with me using the illustration as a part of my series. As well I will post it on my social-media sites and websites. There will also be a limited fine art print edition of 100 pieces that will be available for sale. Please, understand that you have to be 18 or older to take part because I don’t want to get in trouble with your parents if they weren’t okay with it.

If you like my art, please share this post to give as many people as possible the chance to take part!

Thanks a million for your support!

Peacock

It’s Wednesday and I did not forget to post the correct picture!

I really liked how she turned out, especially the feathers look so bright with the yellow background. Originally I did a red background but kept changing it until I got stuck with this. Please, share your thoughts and criticism. Also I am open for suggestions for coming illustrations! It just has to be something that can be related or linked to fashion. Just comment below (:

Finally finished!

Today I had an appointment in town and stopped in a small store to buy the missing pencil! Unfortunately, they didn’t have the exact color I wanted but I got something similar.

Because the pigments of this pencil were differently it was a little bit more difficult but I am still happy with the result.

As always, please share your thoughts. Your comments are much appreciated!

For those of you who are new and haven’t read the work in progress post: I used colored pencils (Polychromos) by Faber-Castell and a grey-ish toned paper. That’s pretty much it.

Here she comes, the finished Jessica Rabbit!

Steampunk

Steampunk

I just realized that I didn’t post this lady! Every Wednesday I post a fashion illustration done in my own style – this I must have forgotten to post. But better late than never, hm?

I got inspired to draw her like this whenย  I was looking at beautiful steampunk dresses and hairstyles. I love the tiny details and the mix of machinery and elegance. Especially the dresses are just a dream come true!

Next Wednesday I will make sure to post the right illustration at the right time! It’s going to be a little cross-over with some very pretty animals!
